The company, started 2010, is fairly young but most employees have extensive experience from advanced industry automation. Customers are found primarily in industry spanning research to production.

Global quality control

Pia Pihl is site manager for the Swedish branch in Uppsala. She is new to Uppsala’s life science cluster and sees a very exciting opportunity to create interdisciplinary collaborations. With a background in quality control, she will be responsible for integrating advanced quality inspections on a global level. Pia comments:

“All processes need quality control and my work is focused on supporting our organisation with methods for quality inspection. In practice, this implies supporting our customers with validation and feasibility studies. At the moment, we have many cases of integration featuring our optical sensor Pixie. The benefits are many, but in general, accuracy in relation to high through-put is important for our customers”.

New market, new opportunities

A very exciting area for Ginolis is the market for rapid tests. There is a continuous development of new tests and a need for higher production capacity for both clinical and private use. Ginolis launched an automated system (LFDA) for the assembly of rapid tests in 2016. This solution is currently shortlisted for the prestigious innovation prize Golden Mousetrap. Ginolis was also selected by Insight Success as one of the top ten innovative automation providers during 2017. Pia comments:

“We are committed to revolutionising the healthcare consumables industry with innovative approaches to automation solutions. By combining advanced robotics, vision technology and novel carrier systems, Ginolis occupies a unique position from a competition point of view.”

Liquid handling is another interesting area for Ginolis. The company handles projects ranging from custom-based solutions to standard pump starter-kits using its patented Piezo Motor Bellows (PMB) pump technology. PMB pumps allow for high precision dispensing and printing from 1000 µl down to single nanoliters. Pia closes:

“The most interesting part of my work is the diversity of applications. Many projects require unique solutions and working with committed people is really inspiring. For that reason, I am also excited to see how the partnership with Uppsala BIO will develop”.
